Cupid's Door

Runway return · 2023

Cupid's Door marked Alexander Wang's return to NYFW — a tightly staged world of pink light, red leather, fur, crystal underwear, and after-dark glamour, introducing Pre-Fall / Fall 2023 womenswear alongside a menswear relaunch. The challenge was translating the energy of the room into a digital rollout that moved at the speed of the show.

I developed and led the social content strategy end-to-end — concepting, producing, scripting, and guiding the edit across pre-show intrigue, real-time runway publishing, and post-show amplification. The work pulsed from the Anna Delvey announcement video through livestream pulls and talent interviews, keeping the collection circulating long after the runway ended.

Cupid's Door staged love at runway scale — pink light, hard leather, soft fur, intimacy played loud. The rollout had to carry the same heat across every surface.

Spotlight: Anna Delvey announcement

A tune-in PSA, filmed under house arrest.

Pre-show teaser · February 8, 2023

The teaser was filmed in Anna Delvey's apartment — she was still under house arrest at the time, and the ankle monitor was the point. We cast her knowing the shot would land. I wrote the brief, drafted three script options, hired the external team for the shoot, oversaw the edit, and wrote the post copy that ran with the video.

"VIP is always better."

Spotlight: Conversation Hearts

Sweet nothings, on cue.

Candy-heart Q+A · Hosted by Nikita Dragun

The show was about love. The activation was custom conversation heart candies — romance-flavored prompts instead of the usual "BE MINE." Nikita Dragun hosted on camera, pulling a candy for each VIP and improvising from there. I cast her because she's witty, quick, and dry — most moments were improvised. I wrote a question library to back her up and a script she could lean on if a moment stalled.

On the night, the activation was tighter than it looked. A PA walked target VIPs to Nikita's spot one by one. DP Philip Cherichenko shot hand-held; pink flood through sky panels; custom alexanderwang mic in frame. Visual reference: the Closer nightclub palette. Framing borrowed from TikTok street-interview formats. A spinning conversation heart was added in post. The candy was the icebreaker; everything else was the production.

Localization
China Rollout · Cultural Translation

The campaign rolled into China across WeChat, Weibo, RedNote, and Douyin. I worked with Gusto in Shanghai on the adaptation — cultural translation, not literal. The long-form WeChat posts were built native to the platform: show context, runway look themes, and tune-in details sequenced as one editorial scroll, not a translation of the IG approach.

WeChat announcement post (long-form vertical)

Built native to WeChat's long-form vertical scroll. Sequenced the show announcement, the Cupid's Door visual world, and tune-in details — adapted to Beijing time, written for the Chinese reader rather than translated for them.

Three long-form WeChat posts across the show window: announcement, recap, highlight moments. Additional adaptations ran on Weibo, RedNote, and Douyin.
Sample localizations — written with Gusto
"Tune in to alexanderwang 2023." "锁定alexanderwang 2023"
锁定 is the Chinese verb for "tune in" to a broadcast — but it literally means "to lock." A native pun that ties straight into the show's key-and-door theme. English can't do this in a single word.
"Cupid's Door opens." "Cupid's Door开启 — 迈入由「爱」构建的欲望都市."
欲望都市 is the Chinese title for Sex and the City. The Chinese line adds an extra layer of "stepping into the desire city built by love" — a recognizable media reference replacing direct copy. Cultural touchstone, not translation.
"HE is back." "他者归来."
他者 is the Chinese philosophical term for "the Other" (Lacanian / feminist theory). The Chinese reframes a punchy menswear-relaunch headline as a higher literary register — register-shift, not translation.
